The ideology of filial piety of the Buddhism focuses mainly to "paying gratitude to parents"? "implementing good business behavior", "maintaining social programs". Its connotation is not only limited to the filial piety of children toward their parents, it is a two way relationship, both side has the responsibility, making it a mutual benefit, mutual respect, mutual love. These ideas and other Buddhist theory were already spread to Chinese and Vietnam since the early times. Vietnamese Buddhism is for assimilation of native culture and the ideological purpose. But Buddhism has its own flexibility, so no matter to which country it will be spread, in order to meet the needs of the local culture, society, has its own change. As with the Buddhism thought of filial piety, the Buddhist O-bon Festival is adopted by different localities. With its long years of experience, local culture and ideas will surely have similarities and differences.China is the place of origin of Buddhist O-bon Festival, here the Bon abridged to be representative of the Buddhist thought of filial piety. But after a long time, O-bon Festival is considered as save dead parents, ancestors and ghosts become folk salvation to the ancestors of the festival. In addition, it was also been misunderstood as the ghost festival. And although Vietnam has the festival, but the holiday festival connotation also evolved from present parents gratitude, then to the deceased parents, and other ancestors in the purgatory. At present, O-bon become Vietnam’s "filial piety festival".This paper focuses on the thoughts of filial piety of Buddhist Obon festival, its cultural background and its influence to today’s society. It will analyze its positive role in the life of people of today’s society. From that perspective, the author will have an in-depth study regarding the concept of filial piety of Buddhism, which composes the analysis of the connotations of bilateral Buddhist thought of filial piety of the place. Make a clear comparison between Chinese and Vietnam "filial piety in Buddhism and Buddhist O-bon festival of contemporary situation." It aims to identify the value of this Buddhist filial piety and the Buddhist Obon Festival in modern society, in order to benefit the study of Buddhism.
