This is a translation project report about the English-Chinese translation of Translation in Global News coauthored by Esperan?a Bielsa, the Spanish scholar, and Susan Bassnett, the famous scholar of translation studies and comparative literature. The source text comes from the Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 of the book. Chapter 4 is Translation in Global News Agencies, which discusses the importance, nature and mechanisms of news translation. Chapter 5 is Journalism and Translation: Practices, Strategies and Values in the News Agencies, which deals with specific strategies, values, translation models and views of journalists in news agencies. Based on Functional Equivalence Theory of American translation specialist Eugene A.Nida, it is expected to give a faithful, expressive, and elegant translation for the source text as well as improve translation capabilities, and explore applicable and effective translation methods for English-Chinese translation and for translating foreign academic works like Translation in Global News.The report is divided into four parts. Chapter one is the introduction of the translation project, including background, significance and goal of the project and the structure of the report. Chapter two discusses the background of the source text, including introduction of authors, content of the source book and chapters, analysis of the linguistic and stylistic features of the source text, such as nominalization and long compound-complex sentence. Chapter three focuses on the process of the translation project, including the theories used, the materials and tools prepared, the difficulties encountered, and how to solve the problems under the guidance of theories and specific skills. Chapter four is the conclusion after the translation project, including experience gained, advices for others, and problems still to be solved.By finishing the translation project, it is realized that translating is a complicated process. It is not easy to be a qualified translator, who must be well equipped with knowledge of source language and target language, cultural background knowledge and translation theories.
