A Report On English-Chinese Translation Of Jinhua Xinkang Sports Goods License Agreement

Since the reform and opening up policy which has been carried out more than 40 years ago,China’s manufacturing industry has developed rapidly and ranked first all around the world in successive years.Many foreign enterprises choose to process products in China,which has improved the average per capita income of Chinese people and realized a friendly trade between China and the other countries.As an important file to protect the rights and interests of the two parties,the License Agreement has become a prerequisite of friendly cooperation between China and foreign countries.Correspondingly,the accurate translation of the License Agreement provides a guarantee for the smooth transaction of the two parties.As an intern at Chengdu Linguist Translation Agency in 2018,the author has participated in the project-English to Chinese Translation of Sports Goods License Agreement,based on which the report has come into being.This report chooses the main difficulties during the translation of this project and proposes corresponding translation techniques.The author divides the difficulties into two levels,namely,difficulties at lexical level and difficulties at syntactic level.The difficulties at lexical level mainly include tautology,polysemy and nominalization,and the difficulties at syntactic level mainly come from the translation of sentence of condition and long and complex sentence.Based on the Functional Equivalence Theory,the author chooses omission,diction and conversion of word classes to solve the translation difficulties at lexical level,and inversion,addition,fusion,division and reconstruction to solve translation difficulties at syntactic level.Through this translation practice,the author summarizes the following three points: first,translation preparation is an indispensible step since full preparation is conducive to the project translation;second,the translation of professional legal terms should be correct and consistent,while the translation of professional legal sentence should be clear,simple and standard;third,rigorous proofreading can guarantee the translation quality of the whole project.The author hopes that the translation experience can provide some references for future study on the Agreement translation.
