Individual measure word is a special grammatical feature of Han-Tibetan Languages, especially of the Chinese Mandarin, unfortunately in teaching Chinese as a second language, no much attention is given to it. So far, there are also few existing researches regarding the comparison between the Chinese language and the Indonesian language. From the perspective of the Indonesian learners studying Chinese, acquisition of the individual measure words is indeed difficult, therefore having research in the said subject is really needed, this is also to provide practices and other suggestions for the betterment of teaching individual measure word.In this research paper, the comparison between the individual measure word of Chinese language and the Indonesian language is done by reviewing related literature and by using different research methods such as comparative analysis, survey, statistical analysis and error analysis. The respondents of this research are the Indonesian local learners and Indonesian teachers who are teaching Chinese language. This research will focus to the errors committed by the Indonesian learners in studying the Chinese individual measure word, specifically it aims to identify the types of error, the causes of error and the current teaching situation. At the end, it will provide some teaching strategies and suggestions in teaching the Chinese measure word in different level, starting from the beginning level, intermediate level up to the advanced level.This thesis is divided into six parts:the introduction, which is mainly focuses to the results and weaknesses of the existing research about Chinese measure word of Chinese, Indonesians and other foreign researchers. It will also introduce the subject of the research, the scope and delimitation of the research, the methods and respondents of the research. In the first chapter, the individual measure word of the Chinese language and the Indonesian language are compared in three aspects:used to living things, inanimate objects and other abstract objects. In the second chapter, through the use of the data gathered from survey,the researcher will analyze the current situation of the teaching and learning of Chinese measure word, which is by the Indonesian Chinese teachers and Indonesian local learners. In the third chapter, the main causes of the errors are discriminated by the theory of the second language teaching. In the fourth chapter, from the direction of the second language teaching, this chapter puts forward the corresponding teaching strategies and suggestions for the teaching of the Chinese individual measure words. The fifth chapter is the summary of the research contents and results of the full text.
