Comparative Study Of The Chinese And Western Characteristic Festivals’ Culture

Chinese and western festivals with traditional features are two cultural forms that are formed and developed based on two independent culture systems, which have significant characteristics and rich content, as well as diversified manifestations. The fundamental purpose for studying the culture of Chinese and western traditional festivals is to inherit past traditions and carry forward the excellent national cultural tradition and learn from the cultural essence of traditional western festivals, so as to understand and carry forward the prosperous traditional festival culture of China and make contribution to the construction of advanced Chinese culture and keep pace with the times.In the paper, it compared the differences and similarity of Chinese and western traditional festival cultures, and made a comparative analysis on the aspects of background, philosophical views, religious style, content and value orientation etc. It revealed the historical social experience, traditional values and deep cultural psychology behind the traditional festival culture in China and western countries in order to help the public to find out the deep connotation of traditional festivals, and then understand the national character and uniqueness of traditional Chinese and western festival cultures objectively and systematically. On the other hand, through the comparison of Chinese and western festival cultures, we could obtained a better understanding of the similarities and differences of both culture, understand the traditional features of Chinese and western festivals and carry forward the traditional festival culture of China.Based on what I mentioned above, the paper can be divided into the following aspects:The first part is the introduction, it mainly introduced the relevant researches on Chinese and western traditional festivals at home and abroad, and then defined the research significance.In the second part, it narrated the similarities between Chinese and western traditional festivals. Representative Chinese festivals are Spring Festivals, Ghost Festival and Chinese Valentine’s Day of China are studied in this paper, while representative western festivals like Christmas, Halloween and Valentine’s Day are selected as research objectives. Then, it found out the similarities of these festivals from the perspective of festival functions and festival origins etc.In the third part, it made a comparative analysis of traditional festival culture in China and western countries among several typical festivals, namely, New Year Festival, Spring Festival and Charismas, Ghost Festival and Halloween, “Chinese Valentine’s Day” and “Western Valentine’s Day”.In the fourth part, it made an in-depth analysis of the differences and similarities of traditional festival culture of China and western countries from the perspectives of their background and customs. Then, value orientation and national cultural psychology have been narrated. Lastly, it mentioned the cultural immersion of Chinese and western culture based on the study of how Chinese celebrate “foreign festivals” and how the foreigners celebrate “Chinese festivals”, so the public could know the cultural connotation of traditional Chinese and western festivals further and learn from others for future development.
