Although our country has done a lot of research on professional music education and school music education, the research of social music education is still the weak link as far as it goes. Lhasa is the capital of Tibet Autonomous Region and there has a lot of private music teachers and social music education institutions, but there isn’t any research on the current state of music education in Lhasa, which is the major defect of music education academic research and goes against regulating and directing the social music education of Lhasa area. So the paper investigates and researches the current situation, the possible problems, the measures and solutions of social music education further of Lhasa area the object of the study, by using Pedagogy, Ethnology, Sociology and other related subjects to provide some theoretical knowledge.The full text is divided into five parts.The first part analyzes the research background and significance, the research status at home and abroad.The second part elaborates the definition and the institutions of social music education, analyzes the function and the general characteristics, and discusses the resources advantages of social music education.The third part investigates and researches the profile and the cultural background of Lhasa, and the general conditions, the educational objects, the evaluation methods, the characteristics of social music education, and the relationship between social music education and school music education in Lhasa.The fourth part discusses the development of social music education in Lhasa through making politics and laws of social music education, seeking the fit modes of trinity, improving the teaching level, expanding the education, and perfecting the ages of educatees.The fifth part is the conclusion and outlook.
