Headline is the soul of news, which plays a vital role in summarizing the main idea, stimulating readers’ interests, and guiding the readers to interpret a report. Based on the frame theory, the thesis suggests that the translation of political news headline is a process of trans-editing, in which the translator reselects, highlights and screens different news elements based on certain frames. In a particular space-time, the reselection should observe certain translation norms. The matricial norms are based on meta-values determined by the Chinese social ideology, news media’s reporting stances and Chinese readers’ anticipation, which serve as the basis for judgment in headline restructuring. The operational norms involve a series of concrete linguistic forms to characterize the values in the process of headline trans-editing. In this context, the present paper proposes the both the matricial norms and operational norms for three categories of political news, including factual, investigative and foreseeing news. |
