A Report On The Translation Of Political News In Washington Post

With the development of the society,the exchanges of countries around the world are more frequent.News is a major way for people to know the world,it plays an increasingly important role in the exchange of information between China and the West.As an important branch of news,political news inevitably holds an important position in the international political exchanges.However,the differences between Chinese and Western languages and cultures have caused many difficulties for Chinese readers to understand the English political news and cannot achieve a certain communicative purpose.So,the Chinese translation of political news is particularly important.The translator selectes ten pieces of news from the current politics column of the Washington Post from 2017 to 2018 as the translation text,explains the translation process of English political news under the guidance of Skopos Theory and explores the Chinese translation strategies of the political news.According to the linguistic features of the English political news and the communicative purpose of the target text,the translator uses the three principles of the Skopos Theory(the Skopos rule,the coherence rule and the fidelity rule)as the guiding translation theory,analyzes the differences between English and Chinese political news language from the headline level,lexical level and syntactic level with examples and discusses how to use a variety of translation methods to achieve the conversion of English into Chinese in political news,so as to make it more consistent with the reading habits of Chinese readers and achieve good communicative purposes.Finally,the translator summarizes the findings,the inadequacies and the problems encountered during the translation,all of which are conducive to improving the translator's future translation study and practice and providing reference for the similar translation practice.
