As a state-leveled intangible cutural heritage, "Dough-Figurine Display in Lancheng Town", an ancient custom popular on North Street of Lancheng Town’s inner city in Shanxi Province, integrates with Buddhism and the ethic culture, reflecting traditional Chinese virtues of kindness, family harmony and happiness. Various colorful Dough figurines on display with excellent craftsmanship are so unique that they manage to attract large amount of visitors and hold an extensive influence in society. The dough figurine is the main element on display, which symbolizes villagers’ worship towards gods. It is not only a significant culture, but a distinct traditional folk art worth researching and carrying forward. However, the current social environment of the display is deteriorating due to social reform and changes of values among young generation. Thus it is of great priority to spread and protect such an excellent traditional ethic culture. The thesis focuses on the analysis of its cultural origin to know about the currenct situation of "Dough-Figurine Display in Lancheng Town", so as to protect and carry forward this traditional culture under the new circumstance. |
