This paper probes into interpreting from Nida’s Functional Equivalence theory. The theory stresses the equivalence of functions between the source text and the target text, and contends that the judging principle of functional equivalence is that the target receptors’ response should be similar to that of the original receptors’. As is illustrated in this paper, this theory can be a good guidance to the interpreting of appellative texts tending to make appeals to their receivers.Summarizing from daily interpreting practices, the present author finds out that strategies such as replacing, adding information and omitting information can be of great help to realize functional equivalence. |
