Translation Practice Report On Procurement Contract

This report is based on the translation practice of an English purchase contract entrustedto the author by a Chinese company. Globalization has promoted the project cooperation sand commercial interactions between China and other foreign countries, as an indispensablepart in those processes; the business contract is of great importance. Procurement contract canbe sort as a category of business contract, it is a legal agreement made between the buyer andthe seller about certain goods. Linguistically, the contract is characterized as formal andrigorous, elaborate and exact, pedantic and stereotyped, complicated and abstruse. Throughevaluating the translation process, the author discussed the features of the translation text andcombined them with the real cases of the text through analyzing to conclude relevanttranslation strategies of English procurement contract and write this report.This report can be divided into four parts. The first part is a description of the translationmaterial. It introduces the source of the translation material and some basic information aboutit. The second part is about the process of the practice, namely the preparation, translationand the proofreading period phases. The third part is cases analysis. In this part, the authorelaborated some linguistic features of the text, which is from the lexical and syntacticperspective, and listed some representative examples which shows the distinct features of thetext and presented corresponding translation strategies. The forth part is conclusion. Itconcludes the standards and strategies of translating the procurement contact and the author’sthoughts after translation.By writing this report, the author has gained an overall understanding of the translationprocess, conclude the text features of the procurement contract and put forward sometranslation strategies. Hopefully it can provide some useful references for other translators.
