A Report On The Publicity Translation For Yucheng District Of Ya’an City

Publicity translation is literally a kind of translation for publicity purpose by translating the required information into the target language. Publicity, a window for the government or even a country to shape and spread its image, is very important for raising the voice in international society. However, publicity translation has its own character which is different from the general translation. Without solid foundation, a translator will not be able to let Chinese culture be acknowledged by the world. Plus, culture differences make it not easy to express the information and the connotation covered by the word itself, under such circumstance, translation is no longer a simple transition of words.On the basis of the publicity translations the author has done for the Publicity Department of Yucheng District of Ya?an City, the author excerpts several texts to extend the exploration. The objective, significance and structure of the task are first introduced. Then, in the second chapter, the author states the source of the texts to be used in this report and the main contents of the texts. In chapter three, by stating the pre-translation preparation and analysis, the author introduces the language features of publicity translation. In the fourth chapter, the author conducts a case study to analyze the translation strategies like amplification, omission, literal translation and liberal translation that commonly used to deal with the language features mentioned in the above chapter. At last, the author conducts a post-translation reflection to summarize the experiences and lessons from the publicity translation in order to guide the future publicity translation.
