On The C-E Translation Of Tourist Text With The Perspective Of Skopos

As a pillar in the tertiary industry, tourist industry is undergoing fast development in the trend of globalization. With numerous tourist resources, Chinese tourist industry enjoys a great potential for growth. C-E translation of tourist attractions is very pragmatic, for it can promote the development of tourist industry in China as well as the communications between cultures. The Skopos theory of translation, as a representative school of functional theories, focuses on the practical purpose of translation. It makes purpose principle the priority of a translation, following by the principles of faithfulness and coherence. It has a vision that the meaning of a translation lies in the fulfillment of the purpose, therefore, it is naturally connected with practical translation and can provide guidance for the C-E tourist translation.Based on the translation of the book:Zhangjiajie:A Dreamland on Earth, the text explains the function of skopos theory on tourist translation. At last, the thesis classifies the terminology names of tourist attractions into three classes and explores the translation of them one by one, and also explains the four major ways of the terminology names’ translation.In the end, the thesis reflects the practices of the project and the directive function of Skopos theory to C-E translation on the whole, which is hopefully to provide reference for the translators in the field.
