| This report, which is based on the translation of a symposium headed challenge of Mahayana Buddhism is edited by Institute of Oriental Philosophy (IOP) of Japan and will be published in Hong Kong China. After accepting the commission to translate this text, the translator made a lot of preparation for its translation, including make preliminary understanding about the content of the source text.The source text is a collection of papers and commentaries which belongs to the category of academic texts and elaborates on Human rights, Education and Health. Authors of the texts try to give an overview of the relationship between Buddhism and Society.This report not only tries to describe the earlier stage of the translation including through reading of the source text, the formulate of special translating purpose and the selection of translation strategy, but also aims to give an account of the later work of translation. The translation process is not as easy as one might think because the subjects worked in a variety of different fields like Master of Buddhist Studies, Fundamental human rights, Feminism and Health, A large number of Proper nouns created one of the difficulties in translation. It is a serious question to translate the source language to the target language accurately, in addition, on the basis of the above-mentioned, how to transmit the implication of the source text is also a question need to concern in the translation activity.The discussion in this report operates at two aspects including empirical aspect and theoretical aspect. At the empirical aspect, I am going to introduce the difficulties in my translation process and the ways to solute them, and at the theoretical aspect, I would like to discuss the selection of translation strategy under specific context. |
