| Legal citation plays an important role in the common-law system, which has affected the way of the standardization and the overall America legal scholarship. The problem that there is no uniform system of legal citation at present in China has attracted many scholars’ attentions in Chinese legal field. For this reason, English legal citation may offer some guidance value for our system of legal citations, so the translation of English legal citation into Chinese is becoming growingly useful.From the perspective of semantic and communicative translation theories proposed by Peter Newmark, the author of this thesis compares the semantic translation and communicative translation expounded by him, on that basis, the author has explored such translation methods as literal translation and free translation. At last, the author arrives at the conclusion that by combining semantic translation with communicative translation, it is possible to translate English legal citation into Chinese effectively and get preferable translation of legal citation. |
