With the rapid development and popularization of China’s music enlightenment education, China’s music education has great vitality.The number of China’s music education institutions outside school has reached more than eight thousand in 2007 according to the survey data. The way of private teaching is accepted by most parents, and the number of little musicians in our country ranks first in the world. Under this background, the experiences and lessons of American music education can give us a good reference.In the middle of the 20th century, educational reform swept across the entire United States which brought a new look in every field of education. As the educational reform and the rise of psychology, more and more different series of piano teaching material occurred. From pragmatic teaching concept to the structural formula, the students can not only learn piano but also feel the music which can greatly improve the aesthetic ability.Under the background of American education reform and based on the cognitive psychology theory, this paper further analyzes the Fabers’ Piano Adventures and sums up some experiences from it which might be useful for music enlightenment education development, and then we look to the future of our music enlightenment education. The first part briefly describes the full text structure. The second part outlines the content, process and evaluation of the American education reform in the middle of the 20th century. The third part introduces series of piano enlightenment teaching material through education reform, and takes Fabers’ Piano Adventures as an example to interpret series of piano teaching material. The last part put forward the author’s views according to the present situation of China’s piano teaching material.
