A Report On The Translation Of Flower Of Hell(Chapter 1-2)

This is After the Second World War, there is an ideological trend which is females pursuing freedom and equality spreading in the worldwide. In Japanese literature, there is a seri ous of works which reflect female’s liberation. Flowers of Hell is one of them. This novel belongs to the biography literature. It is narrated by migisisetsuko who is a famous contemporary painter and sorted by the female writer- hayasihiroko.This novel mainly presents us that migisisetsuko insists to pursue her dream all her life a nd finally achieves the success. She tries all her best to get remarkable achievements in the painting field. The process of her success can transmit the positive energy and also has the significant meaning for the contemporary females to pursue the independence and equality. The writer’s writing style is exquisite, the language style is vivid, and character portraying is meticulous. In this literary work, there are a lot of short but incisive sentences. Then how to translate them in a proper way? This will be a great challenge for the translator. The author of this thesis tries to translate them from the female perspective in the process of translation in order to improve translation ability under the guidance of theory.Both text translation and translation report of this thesis were finished under the superior’s guidance. The translation report includes four parts. The first part is the description part which mainly introduces the writer’s life, the creation background of this novel, the writing style and the influences of historical background. The second part mainly introduces the preparations of this translation work. In the long period of preparation, the author of this thesis accumulates rich translation experience and takes a further research between Chinese and Japanese culture. The third part proves the embodiment and application of translation theories and skills. Through specific examples, the author tries to illuminate the significance of applying theory to guide practice. The used theories in this thesis are Functional Equivalence Theory and Semantic Compensation Theory and so on. The fourth part is the conclusion of translation skills and questions and then put forward the unsolved problems on this basis.
