A Contrastive Study Of The Syntactic And The Semantic In Chinese Verbal Abbreviation And The Original Words

Many verbose sentences with complex structure and complicated words in our daily verbal language often impede the communication and are inconsistent with the fast pace of life. Thus higher requirements for daily language in terms of the timeliness and convenience of communication have been put forward. Conforming to the rule of survival of the fittest, new words are invented and old words go out of use or are replaced to satisfy the constant needs of the society to keep up with the pace, communication must comply with the conventional rules. Therefore, those simple and effective expressions that still retain the original meaning have been gradually accepted, no matter whether the adaptation is caused by natural force or human act. There is a strong tendency to use abbreviations to meet the demand for the convenience of communication.The exploration on abbreviations has become a boom since the 1950s. Many scholars have got achievements in their studies on the structure, the semantic and the pragmatic of verbal abbreviation and the contrastive work in Chinese and other languages. As we know, verbs and verbal structure have been the focus and hot point in the research of the modern Chinese grammar for a long time. However,there are few studies on Chinese verbal abbreviations. It is of great urgency to conduct studies on the relevant forms of verb because of its important role in Chinese. At present, there are few studies on the exploration of the contrastive study of Chinese verbal abbreviations and their original words, which leaves enough space for future generations to have their studies on syntactic function, semantic analysis and language application.To meet the great challenge of the syntactic and semantic contrastive study of Chinese verbal abbreviations and their original words, the master thesis is to have an exploration on the four aspects:the definition of Chinese verbal abbreviations and study motivation,the comparison in Syntactic functions between verbal abbreviations and their original words, the comparison in the semantic between verbal abbreviations and their original words, analysis and comparison between the newly emerged verbal abbreviations and their original words. The focus is on the the comparison in the syntactic and semantic functions between verbal abbreviations and their original words, which is also the uniqueness of this study that distinguishes itself from that in previous studies.
