Zhu Xizu And The Scientification Of Historiography In Modern China

In modern China, the Chinese and western academic interact with each other. The commonness of them is the scientific pursuit. The scientification of history in modern China contains two aspects, the history education and the historical research. From a scientific point of view modern scholars transform the Chinese ancient history into modern history. Zhu Xizu was a student of Zhang Taiyan, he had studied in Waseda University in Japan. After returning to China he served as professor of several famous universities. He had rich Chinese and Western knowledge. He break up the Chinese ancient history on the standard of science, to promote the development of Chinese modern history. Under the influence of Lamprecht and Robinson’s theory of new history, Zhu Xizu opened the first curriculum of the history of historiography. In this course, he interpreted the tradition history under the view of discipline. He reformed the history education system in Peking University, paying attention to Chinese and foreign history course. He also arranged social science knowledge as a basic knowledge of historical research. Thus his measure influenced teaching system reformation of many universities and colleges. In the historical studies, he pursued the objective observation of history, and did many textual researches and historical compilation. He advocated the comprehensive view of history, and did a comprehensive study of the worldwide history. Zhu Xizu believed serving for reality is the purpose of history research. Though on the dynamic problems, Zhu Xizu has historical idealism composition, his work broadened people’s horizons. Within Zhu Xizu’s research, he use the social science method, empirical method, field investigation and comparative research methods to collect historical data science, textual research and for communication, Zhu Xizui’s methodology was constructed by the the traditional textual research method and the new method of history. In the scientific process of China modern history, Zhu Xizu inherited the academic tradition, and advocated modern historiography. On the academic system and historical research, he help promote the historical discipline independence and the development of historiography of science. The research on the reformation of the system of Zhu Xizu and academic history research method can give the update history of enlightenment.
