A Practice Report On Transalation Of CBO Wibesite Information For Energy Security In The United States

My task is to translate texts on Energy and Natural Sources in CBO website, commissioned by Budget Committee at Heilongjiang Provincial People’s Congress. It is called Energy Security in the United States. In this practice report, the author mainly analyzes the problems in the translation task and strategies I used.The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is the introduction of the client, the translation task, and the request of the client. Chapter Two mainly introduces the translation progress. The preparation before translation involves the related professional knowledge and terminology about energy, the study of parallel texts, as well as some translation theories. The arrangement in translation is mainly about some planning of this translation task. The work after translation is about the team correction and the quality feedback. Chapter three is the key part which enumerates the problems at three levels: word, sentence and discourse respectively, such as translation mistakes caused by the misunderstanding of words’ extended meaning and the inappropriate word conversion. As for the long and difficult sentences translation, the problem is mainly in attributive clause translation, passive voice translation and noun clauses translation. To the discourse translation, the problem is in textual cohesion and discourse coherence. I use the translation theories to solve the problems and find out the translation strategies. Chapter Four is a conclusion and reflection on the translation practice.Through this report, I know the features of energy text also the translation strategies on energy words and sentences of energy. The practice report is a precious experience about translation, which will contribute to translation practice in the future. At the same time, I wish it can be a certain reference for translation learners.
