The development of sports and sports industry needs a large number of integrated talents who can combine sports and English together. So far, the current situation of our country is that the sports English major students are not interested in sports English, the teachers use traditional teaching approach in classroom, and the learning effect is not very ideal. The quality of cultivation of talents can not match with the needs of society. This is a problem that the education workers need to solve.Teaching method is one of the important factors which can influence teaching effect. Task-based teaching approach means that the teachers teach lessons by guiding students finish tasks in classroom-turn the teaching contents into tasks, and organize teaching with tasks. In the process of completing tasks, the students learn from "doing" and "using" through the learning ways of participation, experience, interaction and communication. This teaching method attracts much attention since it was introduced into our country, and it is widely used in different level English teaching of colleges, higher vocational colleges, high schools and middle schools. However, based on the literatures of CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure), the researches which apply it in sports English majors is little. So, the researcher attempts to apply task-based teaching approach into the teaching of sports English majors. The research moves round three research questions:can task-based language teaching approach stimulate sports English major students’learning interest for English? What’s sports English major students’attitude for TBLT? Can TBLT improve sports English major students’learning results?The study adopts contrast research method,64 juniors (experimental class has 32 students and control class has 32 students) of sports English majors of Shenyang Sports University are regarded as the objects. The study time is from September 4, 2014 to December 20,2014. The teaching materials and teaches of these two classes are same, but the teaching methods are different. Experimental class adopts the task-based language teaching approach, while control class uses the traditional teaching method. The research uses the method of questionnaires, pre-test and post-test and observation to collect corresponding research data. Through the analysis for data, the following conclusions are got:compared with traditional teaching method, task-based language teaching approach can improve students’learning interest and learning effect better. Sports English major students have a positive attitude for TBLT. TBLT can improve students’comprehensive English competence, make their basic English more strong and improve their ability. However, this research has some limitations. Finally, the researcher proposes some positive suggestions for future researchers.
