Research On The "Return" Of Yuhua’s Novel To The Tradition Of Realism After His Changing Of Writing Style

In "period of pioneer", Yuhua enthusiastically created huge amounts of alien-form novels, causing destructive influence on traditional novels of realism. However, he "returned" to the traditional realism in 1990s, with the characters becoming real, the plots being story-telling and the surroundings appearing typical, which formed the characteristics of naturalism, postmodernism, modernism and native literature. Yuhua began to innovate on the basis of inheriting traditional realism. By combining several kinds of writing techniques, Yuhua established a new type of realism.This paper researches into novels of Yuhua before and after the changing of his composing style around 1990s, analyzing the characteristics of novels before and after 1990s, especially the novels after 1990s. It is also demonstrated that the novels after 1990s not only returned to the tradition of realism, but also showed a tendency towards naturalism, postmodernism, modernism and native literature, leading to a unique style of realism after 1990s.This paper will demonstrate the proposition in four chapters bellow:Chapter 1:Introduction. This part aims at analyzing the current research status of Yuhua and his novels. The creative point lies on investigating his novels from the perspective of realism to prove its return to the tradition of realism after 1990s, as well as the creation of new style of realism based on the return to the tradition of realism.Chapter 2:The differentiation of Yuhua’s novels in different periods, as well as feature analysis of Yuhua’s novels after 1990s. The differentiation of Yuhua’s novels in different periods is still unclarified. The author proposes a relatively reasonable method of differentiating his novels and analyses the reason for his style transition, leading to the discussion of his "return" to realism, i.e. return to realism and innovation over realism, which is an inevitable trend. Moreover, the characters, plots and surroundings of Yuhua’s novels after 1990s are analyzed.Chapter 3:Analyses on the characteristics of Yuhua’s novels before and after 1990s. The characteristics of his novels are discussed in detail in aspects of characters, plots and surroundings. The first section will discuss features of his post-1990s novels in aspects of personalities (i.e., "real prototypes"), plots (i.e., "shattered & absurd plots"), surroundings (i.e., "disordered fizzy inner surroundings"). The second section will prove return of his novels to traditional realism after 1990s, according to the definition of traditional realism.Chapter 4:The development of realism made by Yuhua after 1990s. The trend to naturalism of characters based on realism will be discussed. The postmodernism light literature and streams of consciousness of plots based on complete reasonable narration, as well as the tendency of native literature of surroundings based on realism are investigated. These lead to a new kind of composing method of realism, which integrate several kinds of composing methods, including the methods of realism, postmodernism, modernism and native literature.Chapter 5:Summary. The features of characters, plots and surroundings in Yuhua’s novels before and after 1990s are summarized. The return to tradition of realism is reviewed, as well as the innovation point based on the return to the tradition. Finally, an outlook is presented on the basis of Yuhua’s novels’ "return" to the tradition of realism.
