The Research On Relationgs Of College Students’ Social Support, Self-compassion And The Meaning Of Life

The meaning of life can make an individual came to realize the value and direction of life, and as a target to guide individual looking for sense of presence and self-worth. The meaning of life refers to the sense of identity and self-worth in the process of search for the meaning of life experience. Meaning of life can positively predict individual mental health, and it has a very important impact on the physical and mental development of college students as well as the formation of the future of social adaptability. By discussing the current situation and influence mechanism of the meaning of life in college students, this study was aim to provide a reference of available evidence for the design of effective measures to improve students a sense of meaning in life.Referring to previous studies, this study investigated the relationship between social support and the meaning and life of college students, and explored and analyzed the mechanism of self-compassion between the two.This study select the Support Scale, Self-Compassion Scale(Chinese Revised Edition) and Purpose of Life Scale as research tools to analyze and make the conclusion of 550 college students as follows:First, The whole situation of college student’s sense of meaning of life of our nation was probably Below average level.(1)In terms of gender, there is no significant difference on the total score of thesense of meaning of life and its all dimensions between male and female college students.(2)In terms of discipline, there is no significant difference on the total score ofthe sense of meaning of life and its all dimensions between Polytechnic college students and literature and history college students.(3) In terms of grade, total scores of the sense of the meaning of life of junior and senior students were significantly higher than the sophomores; the enthusiasm for life dimension scores of seniors were significantly higher than the sophomores; the juniors’ life goals dimension scored were significantly higher than the sophomores, Seniors’ goal in life scores were significantly higher than students in other grades; sophomores’ future expectations scores were significantly lower than the first-year students’, and the junior and senior students’ future expectations scores were significantly higher than the sophomores. In general, the seniors had the highest sense of the meaning of life, followed by junior, freshman, sophomore.(4) At whether as the class leaders, the total score of the sense of meaning of life, the enthusiasm for life dimension score, the life goals dimension score in the class leader were significantly lower than the others.(5) In terms of origin of student, there is no significant difference on the total score of the sense of meaning of life and its all dimensions between urban college students and rural areas college students.(6) In terms of whether the only child, there is no significant difference on the total score of the sense of meaning of life and its all dimensions between the only child college students and non-only college students.Second, social support has a significant positive relation to self-compassion and the sense of meaning of life, self-compassion has a significant positive relation to meaning of life; Social support has a significant positive prediction to self-compassion and the sense of meaning of life, self-compassion has a significant positive prediction to the sense of meaning of life.Third, self-compassion partially mediates between social support and a sense of meaning of life, which means that social support can directly affect the sense of meaning of life, can also indirectly affect the meaning of life by self-compassion.
