On The Translation Of Vocabulary With Chinese Characteristics In Political Text From The Perspective Of Function Plus Loyalty Principle

Translation activities mainly involve translating words. Dealing with translation problems at word level is definitely regarded as the prerequisite of a good translation. In the course of development of the human society, numerous splendid words in human history have been created by culture, which in turn demonstrate cultural uniqueness and diversity.Under the guidance of Function plus Loyalty Principle, the author studies the translation strategies of vocabulary with Chinese characteristic in political text. There are many vocabulary with Chinese characteristic in The Process of China’s Political Development, the author divides them into three categories: political vocabulary, economic vocabulary and cultural vocabulary. With the special characteristic of three kinds of vocabularies, different translation strategies are employed in the target text. In the first place, by describing the relationship of lexical words and culture, the thesis defines Chinese-specific words, analyzes their characteristics and variation, Then, the thesis reviews the most classical and quintessential Function Plus Loyalty principle by elaborating its definition.Furthermore, by giving lots of translation cases, major strategies in C-E translation of Chinese-specific words are summarized in the text. Many translation strategy such as, transliteration, free translation, literal translation, literal translation plus annotation, and loan translation are provided. There are three major significances of this study, 1) maximizing the retention of Chinese national characteristics and cultural images to promote the external communication; 2) giving an all-sided and elaborate analysis of Chinese-specific words in fields of politics, economy, and culture to promote the better and correct understanding of the international communities towards the unique Chinese culture, and facilitate the internationalization of Chinese culture; 3) throwing more light on future studies pertinent to the adoption and application of strategy in C-E translation of Chinese-specific words.
