| English political news relates to the latest political reports involved the national policies and activities launched by the political parties and social groups when dealing with the national political affairs and international relationship. Political news provides a significant window for people to know and collect the information of the governmental policies, international situation and relationship, which makes the political news translation bear great importance for people who has the necessity for political information. Political news includes the characteristics of political nature, informative nature, objectivity, timeliness, formality and conscientiousness.Grammatical metaphor (GM for short) is widely used in English political news to achieve the effect of objectivity, seriousness, information compression and authority. This research probes into the application and translation of GM in the English political news, focusing on the experiential metaphor and interpersonal metaphor while neglecting the textual metaphor due to the frequent usage of experiential metaphor and interpersonal metaphor and the few usage of the textual metaphor. The experiential metaphor which makes the text formal, serious and compresses the text so as to hide the language user’s attitudes to reach the effect of objectivity is widely used in the English political news. While the interpersonal metaphor is less employed in the political news text, it is frequently observed in the titles, by which the communication aim is well realized.This study will explore the problems of E-C translation in the political news from the perspective of the Nord’s function plus loyalty principle by analyzing the application and function of the Chinese and English language. The translator should retain the text function during the translating process by means of selecting and reorganizing the language structure given the premise of the privilege of being loyal to the source text, which is advocated by Nord. As Nord presents, the translator plays a role of coordinator who should coordinate the translation initiator, source writer and the target readers, satisfying their benefits. The translator should act as a coordinator by taking the initiator’s requirements into account; considering the target readers’ acceptation without violating the source writer’s language communication goal. When the three parts’ benefits cannot be satisfied at the same time, the translator needs to find a way that can realize the maximum benefit of the three parts in the principle of obeying the translator’s professional ethics. |
