| In recent years, with China’s rapidly developed economy and ever promoted international status, the international community starts paying much attention to the rising “Oriental Dragonâ€. Chinese government’s measures and policies related to politics, economy, culture, technology and science etc. will attract a large number of reports, in or outside China. The press conferences held during NPC and CPPCC sessions have become an important platform for the western world to know our national conditions and policies. While breaking the language barriers, interpreters have became a great contributor for the successfully hold of press conference, who build a bridge of communication between the speaker and journalists from home and abroad. Due to its authoritativeness, official press conference requires highly on interpreter. On the one hand, the interpreter of official press conference should equipped with some basic qualities, such as verbal skills, language skills, logical thinking skills and knowledge quantum, on the other hand, the interpreter should develop some translation skills under the guiding of some theories. Whether in terms of scale, level or social skills, the official news conference will be the best case for interpreting study especially for study of consecutive interpreting. The quality of news conference interpreting will directly influence our communication with foreign countries. In this paper, the author has conduct research on press conference interpreting with the help of Verschueren’s adaptation theory. Verschueren believes that languages using is a process of making continuous choices. The three properties: variability, negotiability and adaptability, makes it possible for people to make continuous and appropriate choice during the process of language using. From the perspective of pragmatic and cross-discipline, this thesis introduces angles of adaptation theory. Through comprehensively analysis of adaptation theories’ application in official press conference interpretation, this thesis has provided a new arena for study of translation theory and the corpus study has some value in the research and teaching of interpretation.This thesis is divided into five parts, namely introduction, literature review, theoretical framework, translation strategies of press conference from the perspective of adaption theory and conclusion. In the first chapter of this paper, research background, research significance and construction of this thesis were introduced. In the second chapter, the definition, characters of news conference, the challenges for interpreter of press conference and scholars’ research on press conference interpretation in and outside China were introduced. The third chapter is something about adaptation theory, the definition, characters and scholars’ research on adaptation theory in and outside China were introduced in detailed. The forth chapter is the important part of this thesis, mainly introduced adaptation to the linguistic context, adaptation to communicative context and some strategies that used in press conference interpretation. The fifth chapter is the conclusion to the whole thesis. |
