After China’s entering to the WTO, in recent years our country has a large number of construction enterprises to go abroad to undertake many foreign engineering projects. The globalization trend of the civil engineering is evident. Foundation Design: Principles and Practices is an excellent teaching material in colleges and universities abroad, including almost all aspects of the basic engineering utilizing an easy-to-understand approach with a good systemic, significant advancement and a higher authority. This is an excerpt from Chapter V of the book and the main content is deep foundation.Source text belongs to the category of science and technology style, transfer and output is the specialized technical information, so the translation should fully respect the original text, embody the scientific and objective, meanwhile considering the target language readers. On account of this, the author puts forward Eco-translatology by professor Hu Gengshen to guide translation practice, translation as adaptation and selection in the ecological environment. The author presents many examples of translation illustrating how to translate in language, culture and communication dimensions on three levels and demonstrates the operability of the ecological translation. The translation report provides the background information of this translation practice and the necessity of civil engineering English translation. This paper expounds the translation material sources, analysis of the language and style characteristics of the source text. After that it introduces the translation process, describes in detail the preparing work before translation, translation progress and some of the items after translation. It also states the translation theory framework, the introduction and combed the theoretical basis, basic ideas and methods of ecological translation and evaluation standards. And it presents many examples of translation illustrating how to use in language, culture and communication dimensions on three levels of translation. Finally it summarizes the translation practice and experience, and its deficiencies.Through this translation practice, the author realizes that the theory and practice are inseparable, must be closely integrated, and the two should coordinate each other. Translators should not only have solid foundation of language and theory foundation of basic skills to broaden the knowledge, but also to increase the practice drill. The author hope the practice report can provide meaningful reference for future translation practice in the field of civil engineering and promote the development of our country civil engineering industry.
