A Translation Report On Children’s Stories Word After Word After Word And Kindred Souls

This is a report of translation on two children’s stories Word After Word After Word and Kindred Souls by a beloved American children’s story writer, Patricia Mac Lachlan. Her stories are about children overcoming difficulties in their life and the language in the stories is very concise, humorous and poetic.During the translation of these two children’s stories, the translator takes Reception Theory as a guideline and some useful translation techniques, like addition, omission and revision etc. In the translation of children’s literature, translators must consider the horizon of expectations of children and use the language children can understand and the subjects children like to read. They should also take the readers’ need and characteristics into account so that they can translate a literature work children like.This report is divided into four parts: first, the background, contents, objectives and significance of the translation project of children’s literature; second, a description of the translation process, including analysis of the chracteristics of children’s literature, analysis of the target readers, translation theory and techniques, major difficulties in translating and revising; third, a detailed case study from three aspacts: wording, sentence structure and poems; fourth, a conclusion of the report, including lessons learnt and deficiencies in this translation practice.
