This report summ arizes the E-C transl ation cases of e mployee manuals offoreign-owned companies. The readers of Chinese versions of employee manuals are Chinese employees who work in foreign-owned companies. The em ployee manual is a kind of professional discipline that employees must comply with both in terms of ideological understanding and daily conduct in the course of professional activities. In this rep ort, the author selects a foreign-owned em ployee manual fromCompany A and a code of conduct affiliated to its employee manual from Company Bas research materials. Based on the analys is of these m aterials, their trans lationdifficulties fall into three categories: lexical difficulty, syntactical difficulty andstylistic difficulty. How to translate key words containing both ab stract and specific meanings smoothly is the lexical difficu lty. How to translate pass ive sentencesflexibly and how to ach ieve the stylistic transformation between the source text andthe target text is the problem at the syntactical and stylistic level respectively. In view that such docum ents have informational and communicative functions, the author proposes appropria te strategies and technique s from the perspective of Skopos theory, such as literal translation, liberal transl ation, natural-flow translation, inverted translation, and the use of imperative sentence and four-character structure. These strategies have a certain reference role in the author’s future study on theE-C translation of employee manual. Also, the author hopes that it can be conducive to the development of Skopos theory.
