On C-E Translation Of The Product Manual From The Perspective Of The Skopos Theory

With the development of overseas market,more Chinese products are sold abroad,among which mechanical and electronic products account for a substantial part.In the process of export,manuals play an important role.A well-translated manual will leave a positive impression on consumers and give effective guidance to them on the operation steps.Therefore,C-E translation of manual is of great significance in export.As a technical text,the user manual of products commands a slew of terms together with many imperative sentences,passive sentences and short sentences.This report is to explore the translation of the IP camera user manual from the perspective of Spokos Theory.As one of the most prominent theories of Functional theories,Skopos Theory holds that translation strategies should be selected according to the translation purposes and translators should take initiative in subjective interpretation.The report will analyze the translation under the guidance of skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule.The report is divided into four parts.Chapter One gives a brief introduction of the project and its significance.Chapter Two introduces the process of translation,including translation plan,resources and tools used and the selection of the theory.Chapter Three focuses on the problems in the translation process and discusses the solutions with specific examples.In the last chapter,the report makes the summary of what has been previously discussed with the translator's reflection on the project.It is hoped that the report will be a useful reference to the future translation of user manuals.
