The report is about the E-C translation of Sunrise Company Employee Handbook.The source text of the report is an employee handbook about 50,000 words including main five sections.In this report,the author selected the section one and section two as translation practice material.The main contents include the company introduction,welcome statement,responsibility of employees,policies and procedures of company.According to Peter Newmark,text mainly has three functions: expressive function,informative function and vocative function.The main function of the employee handbook is to convey information.At the same time,as a guideline,the employee handbook should make employees to take certain actions.Through the source text analysis,the translator finds that the original text is a text of combined functions-informative and vocative,which means the source text has both the informative and vocative function.Therefore,when translating,the author adopts Newmark's translation theory as guidance.In this report,chapter one provides a brief introduction to the report.Chapter two is the task description part.The main contents of chapter two include the source text introduction,the translator and target readers introduction,and the significance of the task.Chapter three analyzes the text type of the source text and the linguistic features of the source text on lexical level,syntactic level,and discourse level.Chapter four describes the translation process,including preparation before translation,difficulties and solutions during translation and quality control.Chapter five is the conclusion part.In the translation process,the author finds that it is important for translators to collect parallel texts.
