| The thesis is based on the conference interpreting practice in the 2014 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week held in Guiyang, from September 1st to 5th.With a closer relationship between China and ASEAN countries, conferences of international level with varied themes have been held in China, with southwest provinces taking on a more privileged role in holding these conferences. Conference interpreting, as one of the most common category of interpreting, has always been favored by such international conferences.Accidents in conference interpreting happen due to varieties of factors such as the environment where both the speaker and the interpreter are in, the time when the conference is held, and even the way keynote speeches are given, imposing extensive pressure on interpreters. Thus flexible techniques are required to respond to unexpected situations.The Forum, held in September, 2014, is one of the most important existing educational programs between China and ASEAN countries. Despite the theme of the forum, the speaker that the author works for focuses on the environmental problems brought by urbanization and ways to address them, i.e., the speaker has been totally digressed from the theme. Unprepared for such occasion, the author falls into a panic at the beginning and has managed to adopt several techniques during the later part of the interpreting process. |
