| Conference Interpreting, classified as consecutive and simultaneous mode, is a top-tier communicative activity between different languages and cultures. A qualified interpreter should have the ability to master both. Simultaneous interpreting, as the most popular translation fashion, has drawn more and more attention from colleges and universities home and abroad. Therefore, interpreting schools with different characteristics developed in full swing. Conference interpreter has become one of the most needed talents in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, thanks to the establishment of CAFTA and the CAEXPO being permanently held in Nanning, Guangxi. For this reason, Guangxi University, as an important base of fostering interpreters, is endowed with many experienced interpreting lecturers. I am very lucky to be a student of them and a student who undertook SI in9th CAEXPO for Investing ASEAN: Promotion Conference on ASEAN Industrial Parks. The report analyzes meticulously the way of preparation, problem-solving methods and its coping tactics. Voice recordings of interpreting were kept for detailed studies. Different stages of preparation are the only path to fulfill a successful rendering from and into English. Pre-interpretation stage consists of searching relevant conference arrangement, reading books of the same sort and communicating with the partner. Smooth interpretation comes after a series of procedures such as arriving at site half an hour before the meeting, self-monitoring when you deliver and scribble down the necessary notes, to name just a few. Moreover, self-improvement can be made by virtue of listening to the recordings of your interpretation, feedback from the clients as well as self-correcting. All the experiences gained from the practice have laid a solid foundation for my interpreting work in the near future. The report analyzes the phenomenon of information slipovers caused by overload of the brain during interpreting and its coping tactics, such as the principle of "deverbalisation" advocated by Master Marianne Lederer. Salami technique, repetition and syntactic differences between translation and interpretation are also discussed in my report. May this report a general coverage of how a simultaneous interpreter does and a food for thought to help student interpreters. |
