Report On The Translation Of Technology News Under The Guidance Of Functional Equivalence Theory

Today, technology is highly developed. English technology news shows the latest technological trends abroad, which promotes the exchange of technology. Therefore, it has practical value to translate technology news from foreign websites. Technology news has the following stylistic features: in terms of lexical features, proper nouns, abbreviations and polysemous words are frequently used in English technology news; in terms of syntactic features, passive voice and complex sentences are common in English technology news. Eugene N ida’s functional equivalence theory provides theoretical guidance for the translation of technology news, and it also has an influence on the author’s choice of translation methods.This paper selects eight pieces of technology news, and discusses the translation of technology news under the guidance of functional equivalence theory in terms of lexical features and syntactic features. Based on N ida’s functional equivalence theory, the author selects appropriate translation methods according to the lexical and syntactic features of technology news. In terms of vocabulary, the author applies translation methods like transliteration, transliteration plus annotation. In terms of complex sentences, the author selects the methods like synchronizing and splitting.This paper tries to provide inspirations for future translation of technology news.
