Translation Report Of English Technology News Under The Guidance Of Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory

In today's society,science and technology is developing rapidly.As an effective medium for readers to obtain the latest information about science and technology,technology news is very important for readers to know about the new messages related to technologies of Western countries.Therefore,it is extremely necessary to translate English technology news into Chinese.In order to present excellent translation,translators must thoroughly analyze the linguistic features of technology news in terms of vocabulary,sentence,grammar and even discourse,and adopt appropriate translation methods based on adequate translation theories so as to comprehensively promote the quality of translation practice.In terms of vocabulary,English technology news often uses technical terms,abbreviations and polysemes.In terms of syntax,English technology news tends to use complex sentences and direct and indirect speeches.In terms of grammar,passive voice and non-finite verbs are very common in English technology news.Nida's functional equivalence theory(2001)emphasizes the functional equivalence of different languages,rather than the formal correspondence,which provides a strong guidance for the translation of informative texts such as technology news.This translation practice is based on thirteen pieces of English technology news from the Washington Post and the Guardian.The author explores the effective application of the functional equivalence theory to the translation of English technology news from the aspects of lexicon,syntax and grammar.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,the author adopts proper translation methods and skills to modify and polish the translation.In terms of lexicon,the author uses translation methods such as literal translation,free translation,literal translation plus annotation,transliteration plus annotation and addition;In terms of syntax,the author adopts methods such as splitting,combining,conversion and inversion;In terms of grammar,the author chooses the translation methods such as the change of voices and the addition of subject.Through this report,the author hopes to bring some inspiration for future translators engaged in the translation of English technology news as well as researchers of English technology news.
