This translation report is based on Modern Ireland:A Very Short Introduction written by Senia Paseta. The translator selects chapter five to chapter seven for translation practice, then makes an analysis of and draw a conclusion from the translation process and difficulties. The report is divided into four parts: task description, process description, case analysis and conclusion. The first chapter is the task description which introduces task background, task character and task selection. The second chapter, process description, includes translation preparation, translation process and proofreading. The third chapter is the key part of the report. In this chapter, the translator employs functional equivalence and skopos theory as theoretical guidance and selects typical examples to respectively analyze the translation of proper nouns and the compensation of logical connectives. Chapter four is the conclusion which illustrates the problems and solutions in translation, and summarizes the reflections at last.
