This is a report on the translation of Love: A Very Short Introduction written by Ronald de Sousa. As a member of the Very Short Introductions of Oxford University Press, Love was published in 2015 and there is no Chinese version yet. As for genre, the book falls into popular science in terms of society, expounding on a welter of puzzles provided by love, erotic love being the focal point. This report, based on Nida's equivalence theory and combined with text features and the language style of Love, probes into specific translation strategies applied in specific knowledge, differences between English and Chinese, rhetorical meaning and pragmatical meaning, including conversion of word classes, figuring out kernel construction and making implicit message explicit, and so forth.Accordingly, this report is divided into four chapters, which are logically associated with each other. In the first chapter, a general introduction of the translation task is conducted, in which background information and the relevant analysis of the source text are addressed. The second chapter touches upon the translation process. The third chapter, as the most important part of this report, strives to study cases with examples, thereby explaining how the translator resolved difficulties in the while-translation process with the assistance of Nida's equivalence theory. Based on the above study, a conclusion is consequently drawn.
