This paper takes “ The Contrastive Study of the Cultural Images’ Translation Methods in the Russian and English Translations of Mo Yan’s Novel The Republic of Wine” as title, based on Vermeer’s Skopos theory, analyzing the cultural images’ translation methods in the Russian and English translations of Mo Yan’s representative work The Republic of Wine, who is the winner of 2012 Nobel Prize in literature, focusing on four typical words and phrases, contrastively analyzes the translation methods in the Russian and English translations and the differences of the purpose of the literary translation.This paper includes five chapters: chapter one — — introduction. This chapter mainly contains the background of the topic, the research significance and value, the foreign and domestic research trends, the Russian and English translations of The Republic of Wine, the research content and methods. Chapter two—— the Skopos theory and the cultural images’ translation. This chapter introduces the theoretical foundation, which contains Vermeer and the Skopos theory and the cultural images’ translation, in order to ground the specific theoretical information. Chapter three — — the cultural images’ translation contrast of the Russian and English translations of Mo Yan’s novel The Republic of Wine. This chapter is the whole text’s emphasis. It separately takes the proper nouns of national characteristics, the words of traditional stories, the folk proverbs and the four-character idioms as examples, based on the Skopos theory, contrastively analyzes the two translators’ translation methods and systematically explains the purpose of the literary translation. Chapter four — — the conclusion. This chapter is this paper’s research achievement. Exept the traditional purposes of literary translation, author emphasizes the most valuable purpose of literary translation—— culture communication.The research conclusion indicates: as the core of the functional translation theory,Vermeer’s Skopos theory takes the translation purpose as the decisive factor of translation.Based on the traditional translation theory, the Skopos theory provides the new perspectiveand methods. In literary works the cultural images not just express the author’s symbolism,but also carry the original country’s cultural elements. The cultural images’ translation is also a process of different countries’ vocabulary and cultures’ communication. In Mo Yan’s novel The Republic of Wine are numerous cultural images, the translation of which in the specific reflection of Vermeer’s Skopos theory. This paper’s research not just promotes us to improve our translation level, but also helps us to understand the newest trend of current literary translation, to provide the translation theory’s perfection and innovation more powerful theoretical support, and advances national and international cultural communication and combination.This paper’s innovation points: first, the research angle is unique. Traditional translation researches focus on translation methods and theory. Its define of literary translation’s value and purpose is relatively traditional and single. This paper carries on the brand new contrastive research from the point of view of the cultural images’ translation in the Russian and English translations, which opens the unique research perspective. Second,the research conclusion is original. Up to now this paper is relatively systematic and comprehensive research to the cultural images’ translation in the Russian and English translations of Mo Yan’s novel The Republic of Wine, which to some extent fills the blankness of the contrasive research of the novel The Republic of Wine.
