Translation practice of the excerpt is taken from Challenges of Second and Foreign Language Education in a Globalized World.The book delves into second language teaching and learning,a topic greatly concerning the contemporary society.The translation practice seeks to provide some inspirations for domestic educators and students on understanding and studying theories and concepts of foreign language teaching.This translation report presents detailed analysis of the translation of the source text with an aim to explore the translation methods for the educational text under the guidance of Skopos Theory.The report attempts to address two major questions: firstly,what are the linguistic features of books on second language teaching theories?Secondly,what strategies can be applied to the translation of the second language teaching theories according to these linguistic features? In order to answer these two questions,the report selects translation methods on the basis of the three rules of Skopos Theory.By analyzing the original text,it is found that at the lexical level the original text uses terminologies related to pedagogy and psychology and common words which are used with special meaning in the field of foreign language education;and at the syntactic level,the text contains a great number of complex sentences and sentences in passive voice.According to these linguistic features,main translation methods including shift at the lexical and syntactic level,annotation,extension,omission,division and reorganization are summarized.In short,guided by Skopos Theory,the translator hopes to convey original meaning of this work to target readers with these methods and provide some references for future researches.
