In recent years, large numbers of foreign excellent works of children’s literature have been introduced into China. However, translation of children’s literature, for a long time, has not been attached adequate importance by translators and scholars in China. Due to the particularity of children’s literature, there are many issues about children’s literature translation needing to be explored. By taking the two Chinese versions of Charlotte’s Web as a case study, this thesis adopts theoretical explanation method, case analysis method and comparative study method to study the translation of children’s literature on the basis of the skopostheorie. As the most important theory of functional approach, the skopostheorie greatly improves the status of translators and target language readers and it stresses their participation and creation in the course of translation and understanding. After studying characteristics of children’s literature and analyzing Kang Xin’s and Ren Rongrong’s translation from different levels, the author points out that it is feasible and instructive to apply the skopostheorie in the translation of children’s literature. The applicaiton of the skopostheorie can not only improve the development of children’s literature translation but aslo bring a wider view to the tranlsation study in this field.
