With the development of foreign Chinese teaching, researches on textbooks for teaching Chinese as a second language are increasing in recent years, however, researches on the cultural aspect of intermediate intensive reading textbooks are very limited so far, which is not conducive to studying textbooks and facilitating students’ cultural comprehensive ability entirely. Therefore, the author selects IntermediateⅠ、Ⅱ Level of Boya Chinese and Ⅲ、ⅣLevel of Step by Step Chinese as subjects, with the aim to explore the set of cultural points in the two textbooks.Firstly, the author adopted quantitative and qualitative methods to analyze the set of cultural points in the two textbooks, their correlation and recurrence.Secondly, the author asked overseas students from School of Chinese as a Second Language of Sun Yat-sen University and College of Education Wuhan University to finish a questionnaire on the set of cultural points in their respective textbook. And then, the author compare and analyze the result of the survey and cultural points’ statistics. Finally, some recommendations and conclusions of the set of cultural points in the two textbooks are given.The research indicates that there are differences between the selection of cultural points in the two textbooks and learners’ needs, that is, the cultural points in both textbooks overemphasize our nationalconditions while daily life and customs are neglected, with little content on communicative activity and thinking that learners interest. In addition, the cultural points are presented mostly in text, consistent with the interest of learners. But the correlation between text and extra text is low and the recurrence rate of the cultural point is low as well. The main recurrence way is that the same cultural point repeats in various texts and the cultural points with no recurrence occupy a large proportion.On base of the demerits,in this paper we provide advice for culture points compilation in intermediate intensive reading textbooks.
