Conditional complex sentence is a very common type of complex sentences in modern Chinese, as well as a key point and a difficulty which cannot be avoided when we teach Chinese to speakers to other languages. It has a direct relationship with the unreasonable arrangements of teaching materials that Chinese learners have trouble in the acquisition of conditional complex sentences and make mistakes when using them.On the basis of a review of previous research achievements, we start with elementary Chinese teaching materials, including Boya Chinese, Chinese Course, Learn Chinese with Me, Developing Chinese and New Practical Chinese Reader. We have comprehensively investigated conditional complex sentences in these five sets of textbooks from the following aspects: the sequences, grammar explanations, practice settings and the recurrence. Afterwards this paper summarizes the merits and shortcomings of each textbook, in order to make some specific recommendations for the compilation of teaching materials in the future. Through these studies, discovers the impact of conditional complex sentences in textbooks on actual teaching activities, and triggers thinking concerned with conditional sentences.
