Since ancient times, the close relationship between China and Korea was established through frequent communications. In recent years, as the enhancing communication and cooperation between higher institutions in the two countries increase, exchange students take a relatively large portion among Korean students studying in China. However, compared to the high intake of the exchange students, the fact shows that there are not many relevant surveys and studies done about them. As a result, many of the problems of learning and teaching are not addressed properly. This paper takes the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies(GDUFS) as an example, with a focus on students’ learning aspect. The questionnaire survey that is the basis for this paper was conducted among 47 exchange students from Korea in Chinese training program in fall of 2014. After analysis of the questionnaire results, the writer found out the characteristics of exchange students from Korea and pointed out the seven major issues. First, the majority of exchange students from Korea strongly believe that Chinese language society have positive effect on learning Chinese, but they did not put too much effort in their learning. Second, there are three factors that affect exchange students from Korea learning Chinese, which is “the interest in Chinese learning”, “whether have a Chinese friend or not”, “the teaching methods of teachers”. Third, exchange students from Korea prefer comprehensive and conversation class to reading, listening and writing class. Therefore, we can see that individual language skills lessons are not effective for most of the students. Fourth, exchange students from Korea realize the importance of “implicit learning”, but more than half of the students mainly use the “explicit learning” methods and a certain number of implicit learning methods only. Fifth, exchange students from Korea have higher instrumental motivation among the four learning motivations. Sixth, exchange students from Korea generally have a high learning anxiety; worried about negative comments and oral communication in especially. Seventh, exchange students from Korea are often unaware of the learning strategies they use. At the last, this paper presents twelve suggestions for schools, teachers and students as well to improve the learning and teaching process.
