On Roles Of Escort Interpreters

With the deepening of foreign exchange,escort interpreting is widely used in cross-cultural activities.The importance of escort interpreting becomes increasingly important.At the same time,the role of escort interpreters attracts more attention.A qualified escort interpreter not only serves as a bridge for communication between two sides but also plays multiple roles so as to achieve a better interpreting performance.During the internship in Ningxia Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs,the report writer was privileged to participate in Yinchuan China-UK Exhibition of Prints 2017 and acted as an escort interpreter for three British printmakers.Based on this interpreting experience,the report writer finds that an escort interpreter plays multiple roles in interpreting process and analyzes the roles of an escort interpreter as an interpreter,a coordinator and a cultural transmitter.By analyzing the cases in her interpreting practice,the report writer obtains a better understanding about the multiple roles of an escort interpreter as well as finds the correspondent coping strategies,which will be highly conducive to improve the interpreting quality and escort service.
