This thesis combines learning opportunity theory and case study theory to attempt to explore the way of maximizing learning opportunity in classroom teaching. By taking the teaching case of a new teacher in Kongzi Institute University of Malaya as example, the present study firstly analyzes language input opportunity, language intake opportunity and language output opportunity in class. Then it discusses the effectiveness and universality of learning opportunity. In the end, we propose the mechanism of learning opportunity maximizing and several suggestions on Chinese elementary classroom teaching.This paper is divided into six chapters:The first chapter is the introduction to the research background, research purpose and research methods, which is based on related issues about learning opportunity.The second chapter gives the basic teaching information of this teaching case.The third chapter is the discussion of the teaching case, which covers three aspects, including language input opportunity, language intake opportunity and language output opportunity. The first section analyzes the content and modality of language input opportunity. The second section investigates language intake opportunity through the interaction between teacher and students and students themselves, by surveying the amount of teacher’s talk, interactional modifications, teacher’s questioning and the questioning feedback. The third section studies language output opportunity on the basis of students’ oral and written expression. The last section summarizes the analysis of different learning opportunities and establishes the mechanism of learning opportunity maximizing.The forth chapter argues the effectiveness and universality of study opportunity according to the reflection of teacher’s teaching, summary to semester teaching, the result of questionnaire and students’interview.The fifth chapter proposes some advice on the achievement of learning opportunity maximizing. Firstly, cultivate teachers’ awareness of using learning opportunity strategy. Secondly, create language input opportunity by giving plenty of comprehensible and effective input and teaching in way of multimodality. Thirdly, increase the interaction frequency and improve the interaction quality to create language intake opportunity. Forthly, adjust the guided way and intefratedly use output methods to create language output opportunity.The last chapter summarizes the whole article, points out innovations and shortcomings of the research and gives some advice on further research. The innovation of this paper lies in:it proposes the analytical framework and implementation mechanism of learning opportunity maximizing strategy.
