The rapid development of the multimedia industry has promoted the progress of the film and television industry.Film and television dramas have gradually become a more common way of mass entertainment in people’s daily lives,which have very important cultural publicity functions.Especially in recent years,more and more domestic film and television dramas have been translated into versions of minority languages by means of dubbing translation,which has greatly promoted the people-to-people exchanges and the feelings of various ethnic groups.This shows the importance of dubbing translation,but there is less research on dubbing translation,and there is still much room for the improvement in the quality of dubbing translation for film and television dramas.This article takes Newmark’s translation theory as the theoretical framework and the dubbing of the translation version of the film and television drama "The Great River and the Great River" as the research object to explore the theory and specific translation skills applicable to film and television language translation.The proposition of Newmark’s translation theory provides a new idea for translators to solve the multiple characteristics of film and television language,whose core is the text type theory,semantic translation and communicative translation.This thesis is divided into five chapters:The first chapter mainly discusses the topic selection basis,research purpose and significance,research methods,literature review,overview of Newmark’s translation theory and research corpus.The second chapter analyzes the text types and language characteristics of film and television dramas.Based on Newmark’s text type theory,this paper determines the positioning of film and television texts focus on call functional texts,but also have expression and information functional texts.And combined with other scholars’ research to concluded that the language of the play has four characteristics: timeliness,individualization,popularization,and the integration of sound and painting.The third and fourth chapters analyze the semantic translation and communicative translation in the dubbing translation of the film and television drama "Dajiang Dahe",and explore the applicability and specific translation skills of semantic translation and communicative translation to the characteristics of different film and television languages in the dubbing translation of film and television drama.Among them,due to semantic translation focuses on semantic reduction and form retention,corresponding and linear translation skills to reflect the epochal and individual characteristics of film and television languages.Communicative translation emphasizes the equivalent of communicative effects,mainly through the translation skills for setting,interpreting,adding,subtracting and transforming to express the characteristics of the popularization of film and television language and the integration of sound and painting.The fifth chapter is the mistranslation analysis of the film and television drama "The Great River" under Newmark’s translation theory.It analyzes the mistranslation of the dubbed translation of "The Great River" under semantic translation and co mmunicative translation,which is mainly reflected in semantic mismatch and film language.Features do not highlight two aspects,and improved mistranslation.The purpose of this article is to discuss the guiding role of Newmark’s translation theory for dubbing and dubbing,and to provide some reference for the later translation of film and television works,with a view to improving the quality of dubbing translation of dubbed films and dramas.
