This report is based on the dubbing translation practice of American film R.I.P.D.(Rest In Peace Department)during my internship. The film has been played on TV already.Beginning with the source of the film and client's requests, the thesis introduces the current situation of dubbing translation and professional symbols in this field.By comparing normal screenplay with “dubbing script”,this thesis analyzes the uniqueness of “dubbing script”.Colloquial and cultural words are the language features of dubbing translation.Guided by “expressiveness”,various translation strategies are adopted to deal with colloquial and taboo words. While keeping the translation correct and simple, the translator spares no efforts to transmit popular culture appropriately. This report studies the difficulties in translating the film.In film dubbing translation,lip-syncing is a criterion for testing the quality of target text, which means the translator should lip-sync during the whole process.Individualized language helps to reflect distinctive characteristics of roles and the translator should choose proper translation strategies and language styles accordingly.Furthermore, proper language style keeps the film humorous and acceptable. Background sounds are inevitable during dubbing translation and the translator masters the use of “fillers”.The thesis makes further study of difficulties in background sounds and some practical techniques.Through this dubbing translation practice, the translator fully realizes that professionalism,cross-cultural awareness and audiences' demands are critical for high-quality translation.
