This project focuses on the translation practice of the ninth chapter of the book Rules for the Global Economy. As a financial and economic text which discusses international rules of globalization, there are many long sentences with complex and strict logical relation. Attributed to this feature, two major difficulties emerged in the course of translation. In terms of sense, the difficulty is understanding the logical relation in the original text, while in terms of expression, the difficulties are translationese and stiffness, and improper information arrangement in expressing the logical relation in the target text.Based on Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory, I try to seek out the solutions. According to the theory, translation is to reproduce the closest natural equivalent of the source text with emphasis on accurate information and fluent expression. In addition, it attaches great importance to target readers’ response. Through analysis and retranslation, the following solutions are found to solve the difficulties:firstly, the method of context analysis is used to solve the problem of understanding the logical relation of the original text; secondly, the method of cutting or combining the sense groups is employed in resolving translationese and stiffness in expression; Thirdly, I adopt the method of inversion to solve the problem of improper information arrangement in expressing the logical relation in the target text. This project concludes with the point that we should pay more attention to the comprehension of text in long sentences translation. Then, appropriate methods should be adopted to the further procession of the first translated text so as to make the translation accurate and cater to the target readers.
