A Report On Long English Sentence Under The Guidance Of Functional Equivalence Theory

With the prosperity of human civilization,translation activities have also developed rapidly.Translation plays an important role in communication between different civilizations.The literary works of different countries will cause collisions among different civilizations.Translating literary works will help enrich domestic literary readings and meet the needs of different people.In response to this situation,the translator selected the first and second chapters of Shelter in Place written by Nora Roberts as a translation practice text.In the first and second chapters,Nora Roberts describes the terrible shooting through three different perspectives.Under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory,combined with translation practice,the translator discusses how to realize functional equivalence at the lexical,syntactic and textual level.Under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory,this report analyzes the translation of the first and second chapter at lexical level,syntactic level and textual level.For different original text,the translator should adopt different methods.In this report,the translator compares the original translation with the modified translation.In order to realize the functional equivalence at lexical level,the translator advocates reproducing the meaning and style of the vocabulary from the whole sentence and paragraph,so that the target-language reader and the source-language reader have the same feeling.At syntactic level,the translator analyses syntactic differences between Chinese and English and clarifies the structure of the sentence.The translator adopts translation methods such as inversion,amplification and negation.In order to realize the functional equivalence at textual level,the translator analyses intrinsic logical relationship between paragraphs,and pays attention to the way of thinking of the target-language readers.After translating Shelter in Place,the translator can improve translation ability;after writing the report of translation practice,the translator can enhance the writing ability,and consolidate the theoretical foundation of translation.The practice of Shelter in Place will enrich domestic literary works,promote cultural communication and provide reference for similar translation practice.
