Nowadays, with the rapid development of global political economy and the increasingly fierce competition, laws and regulations are playing an essential role in interstate cooperation. Legal translation has always been regarded as one of the most difficult types in translation due to its professionalism, preciseness, objectivity and the current patchy domestic market of legal translation. The study, taking the case of the translation of Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, tries to summarize some translating methods and strategies. First, it introduces the reasons for selecting this task as a case in terms of macroscopic background and microcosmic text characteristics. And then it elaborates the whole process of translation from the three levels of pre-translation, translation and post-translation. It uses some examples to show the translating problems and solutions. Finally, it emphasizes the directive function of Katharina Reiss’text typology theory and summarizes methods of tranlating legal terminology and strategies of adjusting sentence structure.
